My very own mother turned 50** last week. That kind of birthday just doesn’t come around all too often, so we wanted to throw her a little soireé with our family and some of her closest friends.
The venue? Cyrano’s Cafe in Webster Groves. Have you been? If not, you really must. It’s such a cute place for brunch or lunch with girlfriends, or a great date place to grab dessert and a drink. It’s adorably decorated; in fact, Pinterest probably got its tips from Cyrano’s. I actually used to work directly above it, so I’ve had many a lunch there. I’ll confess I even had my high school graduation party here. So yeah, Cyrano’s and I go way back.
But I hadn’t dined there since going g-free. The verdict? No problem at all. They have a pre-printed gluten-free menu (below), detailing everything you’d need to know. Thankfully, the Cleopatra is gluten-free. (<– Never heard of it? Click that clink and feast your eyes.)
Cyrano’s set our group up perfectly, even creating a pre-arranged menu for the birthday guests to choose from. While I couldn’t chow down on the Eggs Benedict that was listed on the birthday menu, I did have a delicious Cobb salad. Fresh spring greens topped with turkey, fresh crumbled bacon, hardboiled egg, bleu cheese, tomato, avocado and a red wine vinaigrette. And this was one gigantic salad. (Side note…Mine was unusually large as compared to a few of the other guests…and it had more bacon. Can’t complain about that, I guess I’m just loved.)
All in all, it was a great birthday afternoon and an easy gluten-free dining experience. I’d definitely recommend it to my fellow gluten-freers.
Happy 50th* to my wonderful, loving, caring mom (or as I fondly like to call her, Mary Cox)!
**It’s 60…but who’s counting, really?
