Pearl #28: Gluten-free at Milagro Modern Mexican

November 25, 2013 by Kate Leave a Comment

It’s so hard when someone asks you for your favorite restaurant in St. Louis. I mean, there are just so many good, gluten-free restaurant options.

But Milagro Modern Mexican in Webster Groves might be in my top 3. Think delicious, fresh, upscale Mexican food. Honestly, the whole family of brands is pretty darn good – the same group owns Barrister’s, Tortillaria and Mission Taco. [Read about Mission here].

A good friend of mine, Hannah, and I went to Milagro for brunch last Sunday to catch up and dome some tacos. Whether you go for brunch or dinner or happy hour, you won’t be disappointed. I mean it.

First off, the salsa is fantastic. I totally judge a restaurant by its salsa, and their salsa does NOT disappoint. It’s fresh, slightly smoky, slightly sweet, with just a bit of a kick to it. Try not to lick the bowl.

Best of all – the chips at Milagro are gluten-free and fried in their own oil. (Of course, be sure to check with your server before dining as practices may change.)

I debated between a couple brunch items – Huevos Rancheros or the Potato and Chorizo Tacos – but decided to go the lunch route instead. I ordered the Baja Fish Tacos – made with grilled tilapia, chipotle aioli, cabbage, pico de gallo and queso fresco. The fish was perfectly grilled and the chipotle aioli was phenom. For my side, I chose the black beans, which are gluten-free. Several of their other sides are GF – your server can definitely help you with some other options (e.g., rice, charro beans) if black beans aren’t your thing.

If you’re hankering for a boozy brunch, you’re going to have to refrain from the Bloody Maria and Bloody Mary Bar, as the Bloody Mary mix is not gluten-free. However, don’t be shy about the margs. Speaking from experience, they are gluten-free and GOOD, my friends.

Enjoy the gluten-free goodness at Milagro!

Until next time,
Kate
