I’m not going to lie. Corner Pub & Grill in St. Louis has probably my favorite gluten-free menu in St. Louis. Why, you ask? Well, my friend…lots of nice restaurants in St. Louis make delicious, upscale gluten-free items – filet mignon, scallops, twice-baked mashed potatoes, you know the drill. But the things I miss most since going gluten-free are the bad things for me: Fries, bread, fried things, more fried things, more bread, etc. Total bar food. And Corner Pub rocks the gluten-free bar food.
The owner’s daughter has Celiac Disease and is gluten-free, and thus he has a menu appropriately titled “Hanna’s Menu.” Some of the best things every gluten-free gal needs in her life are on the menu.
My personal favorite is the Black Bird – Blackened chicken breast, grilled and topped with pepper jack cheese and grilled onions on a gluten-free bun. (Back in the day, when Free Range Cookie was in operation, they used to use their amazing focaccia). Oh, and the best part? The sandwich comes with fries. Fried in their own, dedicated fryer with their own oil. You can get sweet potato or regular, but I am a fan of the tried and true potato.
Other deliciousness on the menu includes homemade chips, spinach artichoke dip, grande nachos (so good, and yes they are muy grande), or the Corner Burger. Or some awesome wings, as you can see below. But it seems that every time I go, I come back to the Black Bird Chicken Sandwich. Like so much so, that it’s slightly embarrassing. I think I’ve only gotten one other sandwich there and it was a burger. But IT’S JUST SO GOOD I CAN’T HANDLE IT.
You can’t forget about dessert. When I visited on my birthday, they brought me out a gluten-free brownie topped with ice cream and caramel sauce. OMG. it was so good. This isn’t some poor, dry excuse for a brownie. This was a LEGIT, tastes-like-pre-GF brownie.
Oh, and this happened. If you order the Cadillac Margarita, you also apparently get a shot of Cointreau. Nothing like taking a shot at a Sunday night family dinner.
So to make a long story short…get yourself out to Corner Pub in Valley Park and enjoy!
Until next time,
Kate
