I love the idea of brunch. I really do. But I have such a routine in the mornings that I get HANGRY if my feeding times get upset. (Generally, I’ve already eaten two meals by noon). And sometimes, brunch has the potential to make me hangry. You roll up to the restaurant. You put your name in. Oh, what’s that? An hour wait, you say? That doesn’t fly for me.
Luckily, brunch at Herbie’s Vintage 72 in the Central West End went much more smoothly. First of all, they take reservations. (Thus, no hangry waiting.) Second of all, they have a gluten-free menu. Third, they have a solid Bloody Mary.
Brunch was good. I got the breakfast pizza – eggs, bacon, spinach and cheddar cheese on a light flaky crust. And damn, was that crust good. While I absolutely love everything about Pi and appreciate their gluten-free crust, I guiltily whispered to our waiter that Herbie’s might have a better GF crust than Pi.
The Bloody Mary was delicious, and the waiter confirmed that the ingredients they use to make it were, indeed, gluten free.
Herbie’s has a good-looking gluten-free dinner menu as well. Looks like they have dinner flatbreads made with that same delicious crust.
Herbie’s, I hope to be back to you soon!
Until next time,
Kate
